Attacked.

As if having a rather unpleasant cold is not enough, I was walking through the field from work to buy a few assorted fathers day/birthday cards, when two pyschotic birds decided to exhibit some rather disturbing tendencies, such as flying in a circle around me as I walked in ever decreasing circles.  After a while of this they started to charge at me, pulling up at the last second.  I got so flummoxed I actually broke into a girlish run, crying like Gordon Brown must have on learning of yet another data scandal.

Last night qualifies as one of the worst nights viewings I have ever seen.  Firstly, The Apprentice, which I got into only last week and now will not be getting into next year, following the massively patronising way the producers spoon-feed information and attempted subterfuge into what was essentially a ten minute board meeting.  Arse.  I then avoided BB once more (it shall not defeat me) only to return to the TV to watch a hideous Five ‘documentary’ called, with no irony, ‘Most Evil’ in which some sort of alleged ‘Criminal Phychologist’ goes about looking at how ‘evil’ killers are, then putting them onto his ’scale of evil.’  Which is kind of ratings system dependent on seemingly nothing more than how mentally disturbed he thinks you are.  Aweful, sensationalist bilge.

Also, I am sure that I have precisely zero readers in the constituency of Haltemprice and Howden, but if there are, I really hope they punish the arrocance of Shadow Hitler, sorry I mean Home Secretary David Davis in resigning just to have a By-Election so the Tories can show the media just how popular they are.  And don’t for a second think this is about the issues.  Tories don’t care about issues, other than winning the next election.

Tiredness and Well Being

June 5th 2008 | 10:05 | General | Politics | TV

Well, I have now started my new job, which is, so far, fabbo.  So nice to be in a room full of adults!  Things seem to be going tickety-boo for me at the moment, except for a general tiredness that seems to have seeped through to my very core.

Things have also been improved no end by the current events in America, which I have become obsessed with to the point of lunacy.  Now that Clinton has ended her reign of terror, we can knuckle down to the serious business of watching McCain getting his ass handed to him.

Ellen and I watched the Apprentice for the first time this season last night, and was quite pleasantly surprised by it, despite having been told by all and sundry how addictive it actually is.  We both took an instant dislike to Thatcherite nightmare Lucinda, and enjoyed watching her booted.  Quite looking forward to the final next week now, and will definitely watch it from the start next year.

Anyway, apologies for the lack of posting recently, I will endeavor to rectify that in the coming weeks.  I feel a bit of an overhaul of this site coming on soon too.

It’s Politics Yo

January 24th 2007 | 23:20 | Film | Politics | TV

I think it’s very encouraging that the American media seem to have lifted the veil of partisanship that’s cloaked them throughout the Bush presidency. One example would be this excellent interview with Dick Cheney from CNN, in which Dick Cheney is basically made to bend over and apologise for being a naughty boy in Iraq. Well, maybe not quite that bad…

I didn’t see much of the State of the Union last night, but Greg Palast has a pretty insightful take on some of the minutiae of the speech, which is well worth checking out if you’re into that sort of thing. Which I am. The whole thing just makes me miss having the West Wing to watch.

I would comment on the Oscar nominations but to be honest, as interested as I am, I really haven’t seen enough of the films to comment, and I am slightly narked that because I don’t have Sky, I don’t get to watch them. By combining these two topics into one friendly post though, I do get to post this picture:

Right, i’m off to go and watch the last few ever episodes of Lois and Clark on DVD. Be truthful, you envy me don’t you?

Typical and Atypical

November 8th 2006 | 15:08 | General | Politics

First, the typical. Thanks to my good friend Jonic, this (alarmingly good looking) blog has been recieving some very welcome attention recently, and as the good man told me, now would be a good time to start attacking the notion of posting regularly with the same fervour that my housemate’s snakes attack their mice. But of course my wonderful and in-no-way-soul-destroying McJob decided that this would be a brilliant time to deny me any kind of access to said blog. Couple this with Orange’s continued mission to charge us for an internet connection they have expressed no interest in supplying to us, and it’s all had to fall by the wayside. Bah. To any of you new people who have stuck around, Hi. Normal service shall resume soon enough.

Now, for the atypical, to which I refer of course to the American Mid-Terms. What joy to wake this morning to hear the words ‘The Democrats have won…..’ Of course those words would have sounded a lot more pleasing two years ago, but maybe its time we Johnny Foreigners started to give them damn Yanks the benefit of the doubt. It may have taken them six years, but they have finally realised their mistake. Also, has anyone else noticed that in the first election without Karl ‘the fixer’ Rove for the last six years, this has happened? Strange.

Anyway, cheers for sticking around if you have done so.

Super.

Went to finally go see SUperman Returns last night, and was so increadibly delighted by it that I couldn’t stop talking about it for hours afterwards.  Brilliantly shot, written, performed and directed.  Brandon Routh just is Superman.

Other than that, not a lot to report really, just watching the news and the escalating middle east crisis with a growing sense of unease.  It can’t be too long before this ends up with us all ducking and covering in a futile attempt to save ourselves.

And whre the hell has my abc1 gone?  Freeview goddamn you! I’m missing Home Improvement!
