How not to do it.

If Bob Shaye, the man who runs New Line, the company who made, let’s not forget, billions of dolllars out of Peter Jackson and the LOTR films were ever to write a book, I’m sure he will have to call it “How to shoot yourself royally in the foot, destroy your company’s reputation and murder your golden goose.” his shareholders must be going mental right now. In other film type news, Scifi.com is reporting that Bill Shatner will be featuring in the new JJ Abrams Trek film in some way. Nice to see Paramount still throwing the old fella a bone.

It is ridiculously windy outside, to the point that the entirety of the neighbour’s back fence has disintegrated. And I have to cycle from Haxby to Holgate in the wind, which to be fair I’m not entirely looking forward to.

A tremendous waste of a week.

Well, I took a week off work so that I could really knuckle down, sort out my CV, get an online portfolio sorted, get some blogging done, all sorts of internet based life sorting really.  But on the first day Talk Talk decided to put a fault on my line and take money out of my account that they had promised they would not.  Hence, for the whole week I have been without phone, internet or money.  If it weren’t for a constant stream of friends willing to come round and watch DVDs with me and the repeats of the OC showing on E4 every day, I don’t think I would have made it through.

I’ve been introducing a friend to the wonderful world of comic book movies with viewings of the X films, Batman Begins, the Punisher, Daredevil, Elektra and a few others, and it got me to thinking that no news has been heard in a while about sequels to Daredevil and Elektra.  Now, I know neither film set the world alight, either in terms of critical acclaim or box office, but I thoroughly enjoyed both, and thought Affleck was ‘tha bomb’ and Jennifer Garner was outstanding.  Neither the (also fantastic) Hulk or Punisher films did a huge amount of business and yet they’re both getting sequels.  Manybe someone should poke Marvel a little bit.

Now I know we’re not supposed to get all personal and gooey on our blogs but one thing has driven me up the wall this week.  Once again I met an entirely lovely girl.   Once again it has all gone belly up even before the first date for utterly unfathomable reasons.  Now I know what you’re thinking, I must have done something wrong.  But honestly, I don’t see what that could be, since I went to bed thinking I had a date the next day, then woke up the next day without one, and have been blanked ever since.  All I really want in this case is, well, to know where it all broke down.  Is it some elaborate mind game?  Is someone out there warning women away from me for some unspecified reason?  Because this is happening far too often for my liking.

Anyway, I shall be back once I have negotiated some kind of service resumption with Talk Talk.  All they will tell me at the moment is that they are working on the problem.  Yeah right.  But I shall be back as soon as I can.

Super.

Went to finally go see SUperman Returns last night, and was so increadibly delighted by it that I couldn’t stop talking about it for hours afterwards.  Brilliantly shot, written, performed and directed.  Brandon Routh just is Superman.

Other than that, not a lot to report really, just watching the news and the escalating middle east crisis with a growing sense of unease.  It can’t be too long before this ends up with us all ducking and covering in a futile attempt to save ourselves.

And whre the hell has my abc1 gone?  Freeview goddamn you! I’m missing Home Improvement!

The American Office

July 12th 2006 | 13:46 | Film | Music | TV

Finally got hold of the American Office this weekend, which I believe may actually be as good as the British version, Steve Carrell’s excellent performence the centre of an extremely likeable and funny show. Who knew?

Other than that, this week has been mostly Superman films and Lynyrd Skynyrd albums. Which can’t be a bad thing.

Crisis Averted?

It looks as though the whole sorry Israeli invasion of Gaza may be coming to an end. I hope so.

It’s quite pitiful how little I am doing with my Saturday evening. I’m going to watch ‘When Harry Met Sally’ soon, for the first time in years. I hope it holds up to my memory of it.

Edit:  I was going off a New York Times Story, but now the BBC is saying the Israelis are wholesale rejecting any offers of ceasefire.  Oh well.
